Tasting Excellent Beer

Girona Excel·lent, the Girona Provincial Council’s agri-food quality seal that recognises the best products from the counties of Girona, is organising a series of training tastings called “Escola de Tastadors” (Tasters’ School): It consists of a series of tastings with a pedagogical aim and at the same time of discovering good Girona gastronomic products in the “Sala de Cuina” classroom of the fantastic Foment de Girona, a unique and very singular space that opens its doors to the whole Catalan culture.

Within this framework, Girona Excel·lent has counted on Beer-Events to give an educational tasting workshop on Craft Beer called “Tastem Cervesa Ecel·lent” (Tasting Excellent Beer) where the ingredients to make beer, the production process and the styles described in several international programmes have been reviewed. We have also explained the good practices when making sensory evaluations of beer, the vocabulary used, how to score and we have put it into practice in tasting sheets specifically designed for this workshop.

We have presented and tasted five excellent beers from five Girona breweries:
Moska de Girona: Rossa, lager;
Cervesa Poch’s: Raig de Fum, Rauchbier;
Cervesa Minera: Carbó, English Porter;
Santa Pau Ale Works: Malus fermented with apples from Garai;
and Dos Kiwis: 6 Aniversari, Hazy IPA.

The large group of people registered for the tasting was highly motivated at all times, and the tasters demonstrated a high degree of interest and predisposition to learn all the secrets of this precious brew, which was so well brewed, being very active at all times and with great interaction, asking questions and wanting to know more at all times. There were even some debates and moments of laughter.
